Detained at the Honolulu Federal Detention Center since June 2, 2025
On June 15, 2026, Hawaii News Now aired an investigative report on the case of Chunming Wang — a 77-year-old international investor who has placed more than $100 million into Hawaiʻi’s economy and who has now been held in federal immigration detention for 382 days. From his cell, Mr. Wang has issued the statements below. They appear here in his own words.
Mr. Wang maintains that he has committed no wrongdoing, that his detention is unlawful, and that he should be released immediately. He is a lifelong advocate for democracy and constitutional government — beliefs he has expressed openly for years, including the marble Democracy Wall he built in Makiki and the memorial he created in Temple Valley. He is asking the public, and the U.S. government, to hear him.
Special Announcement No. 1
Strongly calls upon the Trump Administration to enforce the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, protect the lives and property of lawful international investors and investment enterprises in the United States, and immediately and unconditionally release Chunming Wang, an outstanding major investor who has been falsely accused, wrongfully arrested, and detained for 382 days despite having committed no wrongdoing.

Strongly protests the Trump Administration’s unlawful arrest of a falsely accused, large-scale lawful and compliant investor. Strongly protests the prolonged detention of an elderly, weak, sick, and disabled individual who is innocent and has committed no wrongdoing. Strongly protests the use of solitary confinement, forced nudity, chains, and other forms of mistreatment against an innocent elderly disabled man approaching eighty years of age following his arrest.
